QBI is pleased to welcome John Young, Ph.D., as Chief Strategy Officer.
Young joins QBI following a distinguished career spanning academic science, pharmaceutical R&D, infectious disease research, and global public health partnerships. Most recently, he served in leadership roles at Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED), where he was Vice President and Global Head of Infectious Diseases and later Global Head of Pandemic Preparedness.
Throughout his career, Young has helped lead collaborative efforts across academia, industry, and public health organizations, with a focus on advancing translational science and therapeutic discovery. At QBI, he will help guide the institute’s strategy for industry engagement and partnerships as QBI continues expanding efforts to translate protein-protein interaction (PPI) science into clinical impact.
“John is exactly the kind of bridge-builder QBI needs at this moment in our evolution,” stated Nevan J. Krogan, Ph.D., Director, QBI. “John has operated at the highest levels of academic research and global pharma, he understands our science deeply, and he knows how to translate academic discovery into impact. His experience leading infectious disease R&D at Roche, his role in the ACTIV COVID-19 partnership, and his long-standing connections across the biotech and pharma ecosystem make him an extraordinary asset for QBI and for the patients we ultimately serve.”
Young’s appointment comes as QBI continues to grow its collaborations across biopharma, biotechnology, AI-driven drug discovery, and public health research. In his new role, he will work across QBI’s platform areas — including proteomics, structural biology, CRISPR engineering, and AI/ML-driven target discovery — while also supporting the strategic development of QBI-affiliated spinout companies.
“QBI is in a unique position to usher in a new era of PPI-based drug discovery,” said Young. “I am honored to join the team at this pivotal moment to help translate our world-class science into innovative new medicines.”
